From Page to Stage: Contemporary Scene Study

Join director Mikael Burke on a journey of discovery and play as we take a script from page to stage, turning engaging Analysis into thrilling Action. Deeply investigating a single play over five weeks, this combination script analysis/scene study class explores the dynamic relationship between text analysis and characterization. Students will engage with various analysis techniques to uncover the structural and contextual clues hidden in a text to thoroughly and compellingly answer the all-important questions, “Who Am I? What do I need?” Then armed with that understanding, students will explore the expansive possibilities of analysis-informed character building in playing, staging, and/or auditioning through scene work directly from the play. This session, the class will focus on Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.

This class will not meet the week of Thanksgiving (week of Nov. 25).

DATES: Tuesdays, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10

TIME: 6:00-9:00 PM
